Responsive IS

Migration to a Responsive IS Organization

Course Goals

bulletUnderstand the theory and practice of a responsive, adaptive, IS organization.
bulletExplore the various practices and techniques employed by effective IS organizations.
bulletExperience the power of responsibility-based collaboration and modeling.

Description

A responsive, adaptive, IS organization needs to understand the implications of change across many organizational dimensions and levels. Conventional requirement-gathering, analysis, design, implementation, deployment, and maintenance techniques do not respond well to the rapidly-changing needs of large, complex organizations and the fast-moving world of electronic commerce. This three-day workshop introduces an iterative, incremental and integrative technique which provides both organizational structure for effective partnering and system structure for responsive functionality. The concept of responsibility domain bridges the worlds of organizational development and system development. Role Modeling is used to negotiate and document the relationships among responsibility domains. The models support simulation and walkthroughs, quickly building confidence that a task is under control. Attendees will develop and role-play a role model to gain an appreciation for the ability of this technique to resolve turf issues and respond quickly to changes in requirements.
